Worst Pinoy Bank BDO Feedback

BDO is so consistent with their terrible customer service. They make my life f*&king miserable.
BDO YOU SUCK
I have to vent. If you’re having a great day so far, don’t read lest you absorb the negative vibes I have now after another horrifying blood-pressure-raising episode at the BDO Bagtikan branch.

What branch???

When I make a deposit, like when I pay my rent, so I fill out the deposit slip right? Then I have to know the branch too? Who keeps track of the ‘branch’ these days?

Don’t open your TREASURER IN TRUST FOR TITF account at BDO

We opened our TITF (treasurer-in-trust-for) account there (BDO Bagtikan) when we were still processing our incorporation in 2007. I had to go back 5 times just to open the account, and another 5 times to close the TITF (which you do when you’re already incorporated). They kept asking for photocopies of this and that, and a new format of the secretary’s certificate of this and that, have to see the originals, they even rub the notarial seal — what are they gonna make me notarize again if it doesn’t pass their subjective muster? They wouldn’t accept JP’s ID cards, they talked in a condescending manner the whole time every time not at all service-y or polite.

Other than over-the-counter transactions at the teller, every BDO experience of mine has been horrible. HORRIBLE. It makes me cry now just thinking about it.

Secured credit card — BDO Say What???

I ask about secured credit cards at different branches — ah, no officer even begins to understand what I’m talking about. I have to explain that you open a deposit and then hold-out on it, have a deed of assignment, and use that as security for a credit card. Oooh, they don’t have that anymore. But BDO Customer Service Hotlines say they do.

Lousiest Xoom / Remittance Partner ever

BDO is the Philippine partner of Xoom, which we sometimes use for remittances from the US. One time, Xoom suddenly deleted our bank from their affiliate banks so our remittance went nowhere. That’s probably Xoom’s fault. But they assigned it by default to Equitable PCI — where we don’t even have an account. Stupid? Mindless? Ah yes.
We had a Xoom remittance for pickup today. Like I did a couple of weeks ago, for which they gave me hard time because my IDs say Lourdes Marie C. Casas… but the remittance indicates Marie C. Casas. But they gave it to me anyway because I had the right ‘secret word’. So the same thing happened today, and they wouldn’t give it to me. Yeah, as if there’s some other Marie C. Casas with the correct password with the correct amount with the correct reference number. I’m usually empathetic, that they’re just doing their jobs, but they just stood there — not giving me any feasible solution that would make the stakeholders happy (me and my sender).

I swear. I had to put my head down and command myself to breathe in, breathe out. My eyes were fluttering, my heart was pounding, my blood was boiling.

I HATE BDO.
I know I am not alone.
You’re growing too fast for your own good.
But yes, it’s nice of you to keep open longer hours and on weekends.
Maybe you should think about investing in showing your people what CUSTOMER DELIGHT means instead of gobbling up all other banks.

Hi Marie! I could feel your wrath even in cyberspace mwehehehe. Yeah BDO is the worst when it comes to customer service. Worst is an understatement. They have a VERY different and impersonal work culture according to my mom who used to work for PCI then came the takeovers and blah blah blah so now its BDO. And she even rants to everyone in our family (a first!!) how her boss (a BDO banker) is so dumb and always has that condescending tone when speaking. If that is how they operate WITHIN their system then the same is to be expected toward their clients.

Words of wisdom: When it comes to customer service, NEVER TRUST HENRY SY and family. Seriously. LOL

Oh and it’s you 100% right to demand for the manager if they do not do their jobs well. =)

    Down with BDO!!!

Although I have no personal experience on how terrible BDO is, I totally agree with your post. My cousin and her officemate had such frustrating as in aggravating time dealing with people at that bank, the branch was in valero makati, that I really dont want that to happen to me. I was given a free atm (bdo cash card), i dont want to use it coz i dont want the same thing happening to me. My cousin’s problem was with her atm card and it took lot of time to be resolved. I will post her experience in Pinoyexchange forum , you may want to post it there too

I will never use BDO not unless they change the way their system works and the way they treat their customers

I have been with EPCI since I started working. EPCI staff have been very helpful and prompt. But since they merged with BDO, it is a nightmare. Its not because of the staff but the BDO system itself. For example, I asked to setup an account to be included in my Internet Banking, its taking 3 months now and it is still not completed!

@Marky BPI Online banking has been pretty smooth. I don’t really have other experience to compare it to though. It’s more functional than the BDO online interface, definitely. HSBC Online is pretty okay too. Sorry to hear that really. You try to build a relationship with a bank and they get eaten up by a giant monster. :(

I have a similar problem with BDO. I paid a credit card company and the payment did not reach its destination. It’s been more than a month now and the problem has not been solved. I followed up every week. Terrible bank! I post this to serve as warning to others.

I paid using their BDO internet banking. Actually my account was that of PCI-Equitable. There has been a merger. This problem might be related to the merger. But this is already too long. Operation should be smooth by now.

Totally agree with you about the secured credit card. I have experienced it the hard way. After going to their branch about 3 times and lodging a complaint to customer service, finally I gave up.

EPCI was bought by BDO.. All EPCI now, all most all was named now to BDO

We had a lot of troubles with PCI and got worst when its now BDO. Staff are arrogant, manager´s are not helpful and not so useful especially when you´re outside Philippines. Website often nowhere to find, and when found, it won´t open, difficult to access your account and when start filling you will receive a message that you were not active and timed out! How can you not active when you are waiting for their program to download? It is not only difficult but impossible. There were many times happened before we cannot open their website and waited the next day and try again til we got feed up wasting time as the transfer was urgent. As we were in abroad, we cannot go to the bank to do the bank in person, so we contacted our two bank managers (both from different cities), they asked for fax letter, your signature and bla bla bla… Spent a lot of money on long distance calls and emails that were not answered properly. I can say that managers are not that friendly and professional. We sent them a nice and polite emails and never they address you like Hi Mr. so and so nor call your name they just simply reply one sentence or two without even putting their name to close the message. So dumb and arrogant!! You might think its the janitor you are contacting with. Last week we had another horrifying experience that you never could imagine. Me and my husband are supporting my brother who had a kidney transplant and he need to buy his monthly medicines and laboratory check up which is done every month, so we need to transfer money again through internet money transfer. For 4 days we’ve been trying to send money but aside from the website is on a mess or you cannot open, the website won’t accept my husband’s password. After 4 attempts you will be locked out, sow e tried again the next day and my brother has to postpone his trip to the doctor and its good that he has extra medicines. My husband sent few emails, had long distance calls but there was no useful help from them. They asked for personal information like birthdate, and so on which we have already there. Then we got contacted someone from the back office administration she said, i will send you temporary password in just few minutes. We’ve waited and it was already 2 days past, no email from her and its already Saturday.Sunday passed and we made lots of phone calls as the customer service said 24 hours and the last we spoken to were trying hard to be helpful but they can’t do anything unless someone from the back office will respond to them. PCI-BDO is really WORST BANK in the world!!! You will really have heart attack. They make things difficult for their clients, as if you do not own your money!!! At last we were provided a temporary password by two other people so we got two in the end. What could you do when its really urgent? You will be left dying before you finish transaction with this bank!!!

BDO is so proud of the very poor services they give to their clients. I would say, promo girls at the grocery stores are trained better and execute better services than BDO employees who wear nice clothes and put on good make up but are really dumb when dealing with clients.

The problem is that BDO is a small thrift bank that grew too fast too soon. Their technology, systems and processes are those of 20 years ago, which is actually workable, had they remained the same size. Now they are the 2nd largest bank in the country, such processes and systems are no longer adequate. They should have just adopted the Equitable PCIB systems and methods, instead of insisting on their outdated practices.

    Hi Marie,

Another nightmare with BDO! I made a payment to my mother’s credit card and I utilized DBS moneysend which is a convenient way to send the payment online. The payment was sent 13-Dec and at the same time I sent a payment to my Metrobank credit card.

So what happened was within the following banking day, my payment to Metrobank was posted.Their system and service talaga is far better than BDO. So I called BDO and checked if the payment has been posted na.

The rude CSO told me it has been posted na so I said ok thanks. And then on December 25 I called the hotline wala lang to check if my next payment was posted na, lo and behold, the payment daw that was made on December 13 is floating and has not been posted yet!

Right there and then I knew that its gonna be a tough battle of follow up na naman. According to the CSO may error daw and it was rejected by the system. But when I checked with DBS it was deducted and transaction was successful. So sino mas paniniwalaan ko siyempre yung bank dito sa Singapore. And to think na yung sa metrobank the following day napost na yung payment.

And talaga naman dahil sa LONG HOLIDAY sa pinas sa January 5 pa nila magagawan ng action.

never to BDO’s poor customer service and lousy system.

  15. Jenna Robles 26 December 2008 at 11:11 pm Permalink

i think they do get a lot of complaints about their service and system. I am wondering lang kung bakit walang ginagawa ang management nila about it.

Kaya for any newbie there who would like to get a good service, sign up with other banks like metrobank, bpi, hsbc and citibank. But never BDO never ever talaga!

Every time I try to do a cash transfer their card reader( they only have one!) is broke most of the time and I have to come back several times to transfer money.
This even cost me a couple thousand peso due to the change in rates!
The only saving grace is the fact that they have great people working for them, who are working with limited equipment at best.
I however, have to find a bank with a more serious eye to serving their customers.
Sorry BDO your history, you have had several chances to perform, and failed miserably.

Hi! I totally agree with you guys! I had the worst experience tonight with BDO. BPI has always been my bank, pero since walang choice, napilitan akong mawithdraw sa BDO. Imagine a machine na nagsasabing transaction was successful, pero wala nmang lumabas na cash or receipt??!! so I went sa branch nila sa mall, pero since after 7pm na un, ayaw na nila magentertain! Feeling ko talaga, nanakawan ako! at 'eto pa, the guard was so rude, telling me that they're already close, so weekdays na lng ako pumunta? aba! galit pa si kuya! eh pano kung mystery client ako???? di bagsak sila! sobrang badtrip!! customer service nyo ah!!

i have bdo accounts for a couple of years already…but the worst thing happened to me when i was here in jakarta and i need to send money $500 US dollar..aside from paying here in jakarta the charges transfer… i don't know what happen to my money i sent to philippines that time… when i ask them 3-5working days before the money will be transfer to my personal account..so it's ok for me, but when i checked after 5days to almost 1week the money is still not delivered to my account so i'm starting to worry because my family need that money since i only left my passbook and authorization letter to withdraw, i always contact them then they just forwarded the money to my account after 2 weeks already then suddenly i was really really shock and super upset because all i know from that moment my 500 dollars in peso should be P24,000 because the change rate was 48…im just irritating they keep saying because the rate is changing everyday..i know that the rate is changing everyday but at that time when i transferred the money until the day transferred to my account i never heard the the rate go directly to 39 peso…. im really dissapointing with the BDO because they think their clients are idiot… i can't blame the branch in dumaguete because it's already province but in manila to deduct to much the money that my family needs.. how fuckers are they! dumaguete branch they said they only receiving what's the conversion from manila..so in that case…i could consider they take too much and canot be trusted… that's why from that experienced i never sent any money using my BDO account because of hidden agenda and poor services…

i hate that teller in BDO waltermart sta. clara branch. 5pm-i paid for that Ecensus. yes, it is my first time to pay and also it is my first time that somebody offended me that way!. she gave me that stupid slip, without asking me my concern. so, nag fill-up ako and binalik ko sa kanya. you know what?…na offend ako because sinigawan ako in front of many people while telling me what to write!. kahit na incomplete details yung nasulat ko. SHE MUST NOT TREAT ME THAT WAY!!!. instead, telling me politely the right thing to do. bastos sya!…i am a teacher, what if mas mababa pa yung nakausap nya…dapat hindi sya ganun. please give an immediate action regarding this matter. i think she's from san jose del monte city. please…she is not an asset of the BDO group. thank you.
